Met Ray once at EAA Young Eagles, Flabob. He took all FOUR of our daughters up to let them fly his plane. Our youngest was eight. He liked her zeal the best! R.I.P., Ray. We miss you.

Flabob Aero Club thanks Ray for showing us how to make fabric repairs on the J-3 Cub and Aeronca Champ. His Tecnam - N92YE allowed us to fly Young Eagles and train sport pilots.  We enjoyed flying the Tecnam and will always be grateful for all our experiences. We will miss his interest in our club.

In the late 70's when I purchased Poly Fiber to cover my homebuilt Acroduster Too, Ray asked if I was building a show plane or a flying plane. When I told him a flying airplane, he assembled all the fabric and paint to cover my biplane and gave excellent instructions on how to cover the plane. 
At the EAA Chapter 1 board meetings, Ray had interesting things to say. He made the meetings entertaining, not boring.  I will never forget chasing down the gophers with Ray. It was always a fun adventure.
It was fun to fly with Ray. I gave him his last flight review so he could make his goal of 2000 Young Eagles. He was an excellent pilot to the very end performing all the maneuvers in the practical test standards. I, too, will miss Ray. He was a very knowledgeable friend and superb gardener who always took the time to ask how things were with Walt and me.  He shared stories, offered advice, and grew the best tasting tomatoes!    From Carol Wasowski

Mr. Stits was a mentor, someone that became like a grandfather to me while growing up. He taught me so much about aviation and played a huge part in where I'm at in my aviation career. He was kind, funny and would always take time to lend a helping hand where it may be needed. Most importantly he taught me the principals, meaning and value of volunteering. He will be missed, truly, but not forgotten.

With a heavy heart I write this. I will miss Mr. Stits so very much. He is one of the few people I can say that I admire. He was, kind, generous, brilliant, compassionate, funny and matter of fact. I will miss his sense of humor. He helped so many people in so many different ways. He helped many youth obtain their Private Pilots License, for many of them it jump stated their careers. It was an honor to know him and call him a true friend. My prayers go to his family. My hope that the love the have for each other will pull them together through this most difficult time. May God give you all peace to endure.
