THOMAS P. CAHRAMAN Tom Cahraman, principal of Yucaipa High School from 1965-1975, passed peacefully at home on September 7 at age 90. Dr. Cahraman was born 3/19/22 in Fresno to Thomas P. Cahraman and Minnie Cahraman (Kasparian). He served in the army from 1942-1945 then married Betty George on 9/29/45. He attended USC on the GI bill, attaining his BA, master's degree, teaching credential, and ultimately his doctorate in the field of education. He taught high school in Los Angeles, then commenced his career in school administration in 1958 as principal of Lindsay High School. Students and faculty at YHS remember Dr. Cahraman for his sense of humor, strength of character, and insistence on academic excellence. The S.A.T. scores at YHS rose steadily throughout his 10 years as principal. He then served eight more years as principal of the Yucaipa Adult School, and retired in 1984. His beloved wife Betty passed in 2002. He leaves a son, Tom Cahraman; grandson William; sister Audrey Hovsepian; nephew Matt Miles; and countless friends and extended family members. Dr. Cahraman enjoyed travel, dinners out, poker, reading, his dogs, his orchard, and his vegetable garden. He resided in Yucaipa from 1965 until his passing, and took a leadership role. He has served as president of the Yucaipa Chamber of Commerce and was active in the Optimist Club, the American Legion, and the Armenian Club of the Inland Empire. At age 79 he wrote a book entitled "The Cahraman Family," tracing back each line and telling of all the persons over several generations. Dr. Cahraman took keen interest in local politics and did not hesitate to appear before the city council to express his position. He particularly enjoyed reading history, and one month ago completed his study of several academic works on the Russian revolution. Tom was loved by family and friends and will be missed. Services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012 at 11am at Acheson & Graham Mortuary, 7944 Magnolia Ave, Riverside.
