Born on September 14, 1956, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Werner and Annelise Brusch, Randy was a cherished son and brother. He graduated from Granite High School and went on to serve an honorable mission in Cordoba, Argentina, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was during this transformative time that he met the love of his life, Rita Esther Villafañe. With unwavering commitment, he bought her a ticket to SLC, where she bravely left her home to join him. On January 26, 1978, they were united in marriage, embarking on a remarkable journey together that spanned 47 years. Together, they welcomed five beautiful children into the world: Jaime Christina, Jennifer Lee, Christopher Randall, Jonathan Hector, and Benjamin Tyler.
Randy dedicated 34 years of his life to the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in January 2023. Known for his strong work ethic, he often took on extra hours, demonstrating his commitment to providing for his family. He was deeply involved in his faith, serving in numerous church callings, including his most recent role as a service missionary in the Wasatch Front Mission and as an assistant coordinator at the Jordan River Temple.
Randy was naturally curious and had a passion for learning. He loved reading about history, physics, space, and church doctrine. Classic rock was a big part of his life, with favorites like Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. He enjoyed watching documentaries on various topics and loved sharing his interests with his family. Teaching was one of his joys; whether it was math, music, movies, books, languages, or the Gospel, he had a talent for breaking down complex subjects into easy-to-understand parts.
With his bright smile and wonderful sense of humor, Randy had a way of lifting everyone’s spirits. He had a knack for sending funny jokes to his family, especially his grandkids, bringing joy and happiness into their lives.
Randy is survived by his devoted wife, Esther; his father-in-law Hector Villafañe, his children, Jaime (Joe), Jennifer, Jonathan, and Benjamin (Nicole); and his grandchildren, Ambree, Bailey, Brielle, Alexia, Will, Cole, June, Rogan, Preston, Sawyer, Oakley, Clarity, and Horizon. His brother Steven (Carol) and sister Barbara. He is preceded in death by his son, Christopher; granddaughters Katelyn and Carly; his parents, Werner and Annelise; and his brother, David.
A celebration of Randy’s life will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 12:00 PM at the Woodstock Ward Chapel, located at 1160 Vine Street, Murray, Utah. The family will gather privately before the service, and there will be no public viewing.
We will remember Randy for his love, his laughter, and the impact he made on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever cherished in our hearts.
