Saralyn was born on February 19, 1934, in Salt Lake City. She spent her childhood years in California during the Great Depression, growing up alongside her two older brothers and two older sisters. Those early years shaped in her a spirit of resilience, gratitude, and quiet strength that would define her life.
At the young age of 15, Saralyn was called to serve in the Primary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That calling marked the beginning of more than 40 years of devoted service in Primary. She had a tender heart for children and a natural ability to make each one feel seen, valued, and loved.
On March 17, 1951, she married her eternal companion, Robert Osborn Brunson, in Yuma Arizona. Together they built a home centered on faith, hard work, and family. Their union was blessed with eight children: Robert, Ross, Richard, Paula, Reed, Randal, Shanna, and Rebecca. Through the years, their posterity has grown to include 29 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-granddaughters — a living testament to the foundation they established. Her influence will continue to be felt for generations.
Saralyn’s love for youth extended beyond Primary. In Sutter Creek, California, she opened her home for early morning seminary, faithfully teaching the youth of the local Jackson Branch for eight and a half years. Countless young people were strengthened by her testimony, her preparation, and the quiet consistency of her example.
In November 1997, Saralyn and Robert were called to serve an 18-month mission in Durban, South Africa. Their time as missionaries was among the most cherished seasons of their lives, strengthening their faith and allowing them to serve together in a sacred and unified way.
Saralyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Osborn Brunson, and her granddaughters, Stacy Brunson and Sarah Allen.
