Pastor Inez Peña, also known as Flaco, entered into this eternal rest on April 25, 2026 at the age of 70. He was born on May 18, 1955 in Hearne, Texas to parents, Lorenza Alafa and Benicio Peña. Flaco was a man of deep faith, unwavering devotion, and a heart full of love for his family, his church, and his community.
Inez continued his education at Del Mar College, where he earned his GED degree. He built a strong work ethic early in life and carried that dedication throughout his career as a valve technician, working in several locations over the years, with his final place of employment being Flint Hills.
Love found Inez when he met Maria Robledo while she was at work. For him, it was love at first sight. What began in that simple moment grew into a lifelong partnership filled with love, loyalty, and devotion. Together, they built a beautiful life and remained side by side through every season. They got married on July 25, 1980, and they had a beautiful daughter, Erika.
Inez was a proud pastor of Iglesia Bautista Southside, where he faithfully served for 13 years without pay, dedicating himself fully to the work of the Lord. His service was never about recognition—it was about faith, love, and answering God’s calling. He devoted nearly all of his free time to the church and was widely known as a God-fearing man with a big heart, always willing to help anyone who asked. While he loved many things in life, God always came first, and family was a close second. His faith shaped every part of who he was, and the legacy he leaves behind is one of love, service, and unwavering devotion.
He loved fishing, hunting, and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys with unmatched passion. A true ride-or-die Cowboys fan, he made his loyalty known and proudly stood by his team through every season. Above all, Inez was a family man. He deeply loved his wife, daughter, and grandchildren, and his greatest joy came from being surrounded by those he loved most. He was known for always laughing, joking, and bringing light to those around him. His kindness, humor, and generosity made him someone people naturally gravitated toward.
Inez will be reunited in heaven with his parents, Benicio Sr. and Lorenza Peña; parents-in-law, Simon and Adalbertha Robledo; sisters, Rachel Revio and Janie Santellana.
Flaco’s memory will forever live in his wife, Mary Peña; daughter, Erika Peralta; grandchildren, Christopher Lee Avalos Jr., Elijah Jonathon Peralta, and Jordan Derrick Peralta; sisters, Idalia Peña; and Benicio Peña Jr. (Mary Alice); and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Inez will be remembered for his servant’s heart, his joyful spirit, and the countless lives he touched through both his ministry and his love for others.
The Peña family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all of their family, friends, and church family for the prayers, love, and support shown during this difficult time. They would also like to give special thanks to Raul and Cindy Hinojosa, Rodney and Miranda Flores, Daniel Peña, and Hector and Helen Vargas, Michael Vargas, Hector Vargas Jr. and Potters House for their generous monetary support and kindness.
