

After growing up and graduating from college in North Carolina she worked as a special education learning disabilities teacher. She lived in Alexandria, VA where in addition to working, she began her volunteer service serving as a parent director of the TC Williams High School Band Camp, a secretary on the Alexandria Symphony Board of Directors, an administrative assistant for the Musical Instruments Division at the Smithsonian Institutes. After moving to FL, she volunteered in the baby room at the Florida Wildlife Hospital.
Her Lions career began with her move to FL in 2000 and has included serving in most offices in the Viera Lions Club and many offices in both District 35-D, 35-O, and the Multiple District 35. She is a Certified Guiding Lion, a Certified Diabetes Awareness Trainer and Screener, a vision screener, and a Sight First Retina Grant Coordinator. She holds many club, district, and Multiple District awards and is a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow, a Grand Lion, and a Perpetual Life Member for the Conklin Center. She has also been honored with the Presidential Leadership Award from Lions Clubs International.
Carolyn is survived by her husband David Lloyd, Past Council Chair and the Immediate Past President of the Florida Lions Foundation for the Blind.
Carolyn also leaves behind her son Howard Sorg and his wife Dawnya of Merritt Island; grandchildren Amanda Knox and her husband Justin, Philicia Sorg, Cameron Sorg and Aleana Sorg; great granddaughter Vivien Knox; and her step children Janet Churchwell and Lori Budiani.
A celebration of Carolyn’s life will be held at noon Sunday March 29, 2015 at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lions club www.lionsclubs.org. Glasses donations in her memory are encouraged and will be accepted at the celebration of life.
