Died January 24, 2017
Janice Cook, 62, beloved mother, sister, cousin, aunt, friend and teacher to so many children, died on January 24, 2017. Janice, all too soon was taken from this world, had a heart of great compassion and was always giving to those in need and saving stray animals whom she adopted into her family. She will be missed by so many who loved her and returned her many kindnesses when she most needed help as her life came to a close.
Janice was born in Hammond, Indiana on June 3, 1954 to Hershel and Shirley Cook. Her Dad had a music store inherited from his father, Simon, so Janice always had access to musical instruments. From her early teens she played guitar, and music and singing were a very important part of her life.
She was an Army Veteran and attended the University of Florida where she received a Masters in Education. Janice taught developmentally disabled adults here in Brevard County and in later years she was a Forrest Ranger for the Brevard County Parks.
Janice was very devoted to Temple Israel of Brevard where she accompanied services on her guitar every week, sang in the Adult Volunteer Choir and performed in many Purim Plays. She was a much-loved teacher in the Temple’s Religious School and a constant support and friend to her many fellow congregants and Rabbi.
One of her greatest loves was her cat family. She was an active member of the Space Coast Feline Network caring for countless cats both in her home and in colonies. Her love of nature and all animals and her passion for caring for our earth was apparent in the way she lived her life.
She is survived by her son, Emerson Bielin, brother Stephen Cook and his son, Kyle, two cousins Karen Winner and Daniel Winner and many other relatives and friends.
There will be a memorial service for Janice at Temple Israel, 7350 Lake Andrew Drive in Viera on February 12th at 1pm. Donations in her memory are to be sent to Temple Israel or the Space Coast Feline Network. May her memory always be a blessing.
