

He was born in Abbeville, Alabama on October 9, 1945 to Earl and Evelyn Whitehead. He was the 3rd of 4 children and graduated from Houston County High School in Columbia, AL. John served in the Army National Guard of Alabama for 5 years. Following his service, John began his career as an electrician and eventually became a licensed master electrician. Throughout his career, John worked in maintenance supervisory positions at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, GA, youth detention centers in southwest GA, and other facilities and businesses.
Outside of his career, John always kept himself busy with a multitude of hobbies including restoring old cars, air boating, gardening, and painting. John never met a stranger and was an incredible storyteller.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James (Jimmy) Whitehead. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Diane Whitehead, his son, Todd Whitehead, and his daughters, Heather Whitehead and Dr. Eva Buckner, his sisters, Lillian Millett and Serena Coleman, and his grandchildren, Andrea Moseley and Hunter Culp, as well as numerous loving extended family members.
A Celebration of John’s life will be held at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, 5950 S. US-1 Rockledge, FL 32955, on Friday, November 25, 2016 at 11 am. A committal service will follow at 12 pm in Florida Memorial Gardens.
