June A. Suermann died April 20, 2019 peacefully at her home in Viera, FL. Her health declined following a diagnosis of two types of Stage IV cancer in 2017. June Suermann is predeceased in death by her husband of nearly 40 years, COL Tom Suermann, USA, ret., who passed away in 2011. June and Tom are survived by two sons, Michael Suermann, Maj. USAF, of FL and Dr. Patrick Suermann, Lt Col, USAF, ret. and daughter-in-law Megan Suermann, LT, USN, of New Braunfels, TX. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Drew, Katie, Isabelle and Jack Suermann. June was born in Queens, NY to Dorothy and James McInerney, Col, USAF, ret. She was predeceased in 1993 and 2005 by her mother and father, respectively. She is survived by her sister, Dr. Claire McInerney of Portland, OR; her brother Patrick McInerney, Maj, USAF, ret and his wife, Karen McInerney. She is also survived by numerous devoted nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Specifically, she will be missed greatly by Liz Fleischman, Catherine Potter and their families in Brooklyn, NY and Portland, OR, respectively. After marrying 2LT Tom Suermann in 1971 at the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point, June and Tom enjoyed a 28-yr military career in the Army Corps of Engineers, culminating with District Command in Wilmington, NC and St. Louis, MO. After retirement from active duty in Cincinnati, OH in 1998, June and Tom moved to Orlando, FL, then on to Alpharetta, GA in 2002, before fully retiring from Leawood, KS and moving back to the Space Coast in in 2010. June was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Community and helped run their bereavement group for several years after Tom’s passing in 2011. She was a woman of strong faith and always focused on others’ needs. Her warm and loving hospitality always cheered those around her and her hallmark trait, her generosity, will be both remembered and greatly missed. A funeral Mass will be held at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 9a on Wed, Apr 24, 2019 with entombment to follow at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge, Florida.
