The family of Kevin Christopher Rumps (Casey) is saddened to announce his passing on April 29, 2022 at the age of 31 years old. Casey was born on March 1, 1991 in Orlando, FL to his parents Tracy Wright-Smith and Kevin Gerald Rumps.
Casey is survived by his son Carter Rumps; his father Kevin Rumps; his mother Tracy Wright-Smith (Philip); his sister Carly Rumps; his brother Derek Rumps; his grandmother Barbara Wright; his grandparents Malcolm and Lya Wright; and his nephew Michael Rumps. Casey’s loss is also mourned by many aunts, uncles and cousins but he was particularly close to his aunt Karen Hill (Lonnie) and his cousins Michael and Matthew Hill. He also leaves behind many friends that were like family.
Casey was predeceased by his grandparents Lorraine and Gerald Rumps and his great-grandparents Miriam Buckland, Arthur Larsen, and Malcolm and Margaret Wright.
He was a kind and generous man who went by many names. Most of his friends from adulthood called him Kevin, his family and long-time childhood friends called him Casey, and the people he worked with at the front desk of many Cocoa Beach area hotels called him “Mission Control Kev.”
Casey was a devoted father; his son Carter was his best friend. Besides his son, Casey’s passion was the space program. He was raised in Titusville, FL where watching shuttle launches was a huge part of his life growing up. Later in life, he moved to Cape Canaveral where he got a front row seat to watch the rocket launches. When he wasn’t talking about rockets, you could find him talking sports. Whether it was the Arsenal Football Club, the Miami Heat or the Atlanta Braves, Casey was the fan that sports teams dream to have on their side.
Those who knew Casey, even just a little, lost a shining light in their lives. He will be best remembered for his huge heart, his infectious laugh and his innate ability to make everyone smile.
On May 2, 2022, Casey joined the ranks of those heroes in our society who have chosen to donate organs to people in need. His gift was able to change multiple lives. While Casey will be deeply missed, there is comfort knowing his legacy will live on.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11am on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Florida Memorial Gardens (5950 US-1 South, Rockledge, FL 32955).
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Cape Canaveral Hospital for their care and compassion.
