Margaret O. Messina (Peg) passed away peacefully at home in Merritt Island, FL, on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at the age of 99. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, John Messina; first husband, William Kaufman; son, Thomas Kaufman; and parents, William and Hermina Stein. She is survived by a daughter, Jan Funderburke, son in law Danny Funderburke, two grandchildren Sarah Meaney (Jason) and Daniel Funderburke, and three great-grandchildren, Brayden Funderburke, Alina Meaney, and Aviana Meaney.
She was a graduate of the University of Maryland nursing program. She became an army wife and traveled with her husband to post-war Japan and Canada, finally settling in Merritt Island in 1972.
She was a nurse in Rockledge at Wuesthoff Memorial Hospital for many years before her retirement. In retirement, she was an active volunteer at Cape Canaveral Hospital, Rockledge Presbyterian Church, and the Salvation Army.
The family wishes to thank the Hospice of Healthfirst for their devotion to her.
There will be a Witness to the Resurrection Service at 11 am at Rockledge Presbyterian Church, 921 Rockledge Drive, Rockledge, FL 32955, on September 27, 2025, with a reception following.
