She is survived by her daughters, Renee (George) Humphrey of Houston, Texas, and Nicole (Aaron) Walters of Boonville, Missouri; her grandchildren, Tyler (Alyssa) Walters, Patrick Humphrey, Apryl (Stephon) Walters, and Lila Humphrey; and her great-granddaughters, Oakley and Khloe. She is also survived by her brother, Paul (Judi) Sundholm, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Dorothy Sundholm; her brother, Dennis Sundholm; her sister-in-law, Anne Sundholm; and her niece, Michele (Sundholm) Tate.
Marilyn spent most of her professional career working for the Brevard County School District in Florida. Outside of her work life, she was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church and was especially devoted to the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML). She served in numerous leadership roles, most notably as President of the Florida, Georgia District and Chairman of the 2005 International Convention. Through the LWML, Marilyn formed her closest and most cherished friendships.
Through her faith and service, Marilyn fulfilled two lifelong dreams: participating in a mission trip to Africa and traveling to Germany to follow the path of Martin Luther, experiences that were deeply meaningful to her and reflected her enduring Christian devotion.
Marilyn will be remembered most for the time spent with family at the fishing cabin in Minnesota, attending turtle races, playing card games, and delighting in shared pranks and laughter. Like her brothers and father, she was a talented fisherman. She will also be lovingly remembered in the kitchen for her cherished recipes for BBQ ribs, deviled eggs, meatloaf, sugar mints, crazy lemon cake, and dirt dessert. Marilyn instilled a love of crafting in both her daughters and was also an accomplished bowler and golfer.
Marilyn’s loved ones are invited to join her family at 10:30 a.m. on March 28, 2026, at Florida Memorial Gardens, located at 5950 US-1 in Rockledge, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to express sympathy are invited to consider a donation to Lutheran Church Charities K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry, a cause Marilyn not only supported during her LWML service, but also one that brought her comfort during her final year.
