It is with great sadness that the family of Matthew (Matt) O’Neal Bilbo announces his passing on Sunday, September 1, 2019. Matt suffered from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. The cause is unknown and there is no cure. Matt was 59 years old.
Matt was born in Bay St. Louis, MS and grew up in Cocoa Beach, FL where he graduated from Cocoa Beach High School, and the University of Central Florida (UCF) with a BS degree in Electrical Engineering, with Honors. Prior to graduating from UCF, Matt worked as an auto mechanic at his parent’s business for many years. He and his father shared a passion for building and racing cars.
After graduating from UCF, Matt worked for NASA at Kennedy Space Center as a Software Engineer and most recently worked at the Federal Aviation Administration in Washington, DC, as an Electrical Engineer.
Matt enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, family, and friends; and serving the Lord, as a Deacon at the First Baptist Church of Merritt Island, FL.
Matt was preceded in death by his daughter, Natasha Bilbo. Matt will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Suzanne Calhoun-Bilbo; his children, Tequoia Bilbo, Alysia Bilbo, and Christopher Pearsall; his parents, Carolyn and Hodges Bilbo; sisters, Marlene Wollney (Mike), Kelly Whippo (Jeff), Bridget Vining, and Renee Bilbo; nieces, Michelle Galvin (Tyrone), Nichole Pierce (Kendall), Sarah Crisafulli (Ben), Jennifer Bilbo, and Christine Bilbo; nephews, Thomas Wollney (Brandy), Christopher Whippo (Joanna), Brian Whippo (Rachel), Joshua Bilbo, and his many friends.
On Saturday, September 14, 2019, in the Chapel of the First Baptist Church of Merritt Island, 140 Magnolia Avenue a viewing will begin at 10:00am, a Memorial Service will begin at 11:00am, followed by a reception. A Graveside Service will be at 2pm at Brevard Memorial Gardens, 320 Spring Street Cocoa, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Matt's honor to the House of Hope (a food and clothing ministry at the First Baptist Church of Merritt Island) or to the charity of your choice.
