On behalf of Elaine, David (Betty Sellers), and Larry plus dad's niece Shirley, dad's grandson Alexander, Elaine's family, I would like to thank each and every one of you who has sent comments on-line in memory of Bob Conn.  Bob was our family leader -- a loving and devoted husband to Elaine, a loving and devoted father to Larry and David, a devoted uncle to Shirley and to his nephews and nieces on Elaine's side of the family, and a loving and devoted grandfather to Alexader.  Bob also had a comforting and friendly demeanor towards those who worked with him, including Barbara at WUI, and Ellan at Shaw Pittman.  Bob was a brilliant and incisive attorney who devoted 47 years of professional life as an attorney in the telecommunications field with a specialty in international communications.  He worked at the FCC for 8 years, and his love and interest in public service served him well for his 85 + years.  He worked briefly in the Washington, D.C. law firm of Smith & Pepper before leaving the Washington, D.C. area for New York City, where he served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel at Western Union International for the next 20 years.  After retiring from MCI, which had purchased WUI from Xerox Corporation, Bob worked at Shaw, Pittman in Washington, D.C. until he retired in early 2000.  Bob argued numerous cases before the FCC, D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, and Secod Circuit Court of Appeals, gaining a reputation as one of the leading telecommunications attorneys in the field.  Shortly after retirement, Bob moved to Leisure World, a retirement village comprised of almost 10,000 residents in Silver Spring, Maryland.  Bob served as President and on the Board of Directors of his building, Vantage Point East, for all nine years of his residence at Leisure World. He served on the Legal Committee for all of Leisure World, and as President of In Force.  The residents of Leisure World admired Bob for his energy, fortitude, legal prowess, and ability to move forward on issues of importance to the residents of the community.  Bob died doing what he loved best -- working on senior health care legislation with his Leisure World colleagues and President of the Montgomery County Council, Roger Berliner.  I hope that the residents of Leisure World will stand on the shoulders of a giant of a man, and use his examples of leadership, public service, and devotion to democracy and an open system to bring his visions to fruition.  I personally want to thank people who work with me at the FTC for comments, including Commissioner Brill, Bill Lanning, HOlly Vedova, Lisa Kopchik, Gary Greenfield, Bev Dodson, Joel Cohn, and Larry's law firm Polsinelli, Shugart for their support during these trying times.  But all of those commenting should realize that we have lost a great man with the death of Bob Conn.

With sincere thanks to all who have commented and sent condolences to Elaine, Larry, and me, I wish you all the best in your endeavors.

I feel he is the one who helped put me on the road that I am on today.  He was such an inspiration, never a negative comment on anyone.  He was truly a gentleman... I am deeply saddened to hear of Robert Conn's death.  I worked for Mr. Conn for many years at Shaw Pittman.  He used to take care of my daughter, who is now 30, when I had to bring her into work and she always spoke of how kind he was to her.  He was a great man.
