Shaun excelled in multiple sports at Memorial High School in Joplin, Mo. He later earned his way onto the roster to play baseball at Crowder Junior College before moving on to Fayetteville to join the Arkansas Razorbacks. His play at third base earned him the most improved player award for the 1978 season. After his senior season, Shaun was drafted to play baseball in the Oakland Athletics organization, where he played in the minor league for two seasons.
Shaun was an avid reader and loved gardening. He took pride in the variety of fruits and vegetables he could grow in his small backyard garden. He was also passionate about music from his youth, particularly John Lennon and The Beatles. He enjoyed sharing the love of his hobbies with his son and daughter.
Of all of his hobbies, Shaun was most passionate about sports. He participated in some form of athletic competition all the way up until just a few years before his passing. From baseball, football, and basketball in his youth, to a long career playing softball, he loved every moment. If it was possible to compete, he wanted to participate.
He was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis Cardinals, but above all, he loved the Arkansas Razorbacks. He shared his love of the Hogs with everyone he could and was a season ticket holder for both football and baseball for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Terry Lacey and Peggy Rentfro, and his brother Paddy Lacey.
Shaun is survived by: son, Ryan Lacey of Fayetteville; daughter, Falon Lacey of Rogers; brothers, Mike Lacey (Janet) of Joplin, and Shannon Lacey of Vero Beach, FL; sisters, Kelley Englert (Frank) of Joplin, Kathy Lacey of Joplin, Tara Lacey-Wooten (David) of Joplin, and Erin Lacey-Whitehead (Greg) of Joplin; former spouse and longtime friend, Jackie Lacey of Rogers.
A memorial service for Shaun will be held at Rollins Funeral Home on Thursday, August 25 at 2:00pm.
