

Mrs. Richars was born in Lilbourn, MO. January 7, 1923, daughter of the late James and Carrie Brown Baker. Mrs. Richars was a graduate of Lilbourn High School and later attended Southeast Missouri University and the University of Minnesota. Mrs. Richars was the wife of Edward Henry Richars to whom she was married for 66 years.
She worked for the Internal Revenue Service as a Supervisory Personnel Specialist in St. Paul Minnesota and St. Louis, Missouri. She received the regional commissioner’s award at her retirement. She and her husband moved to Rome in 1987. She was active in several Baptist churches – doing pioneer mission work in St. Paul, a senior adult leader in Ft. Myers, FL, and teaching in numerous Sunday School Classes including the Daniel’s Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church in Rome. She also played in the Senior Handbell Choir. She volunteered with the Woman’s Information Network, Inc., Priority Plus, Georgia Cares, First Baptist soup kitchen and as a panel member for the juvenile courts in Rome. The Georgia Commission on Women awarded her the Georgia Legacy Older Women Award for her continuing volunteer work after the normal age of retirement. Mrs. Was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Henry Richar,s on May 26, 2007, and three brothers, Basil, Quentin, and James Baker.
Survivors include one brother; Kenneth Baker and his wife Eva Jean, and one sister; Melcenia Nappier and her husband Carl, two nieces, Bonnie Hyser and Sharon Baker with whom she lived. She is also survived by eight nephews Basil, Ken, Kevin, Gale, Rodney Baker, and David, Dennis and Terry Nappier. She had ten great nieces, eleven great nephews and two great, great nephews.
Mrs. Richars was always thankful for the sharing of nieces and nephews, especially Forrest and Elliot Simpson with whom she lived.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 11, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Rome, with Dr. Joel Snider officiating. Entombment will follow at the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursda,y November 10, 2011 at Daniel’s Funeral Home from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
