

She was born in Gympie, Australia November 10, 1920 to the late Daisy and Bennett Johnstone. She served in the Australian Army during World War II, achieving the rank of Sergeant. She met her husband, Leighton, in 1941 when he was stationed in Australia with the U.S. Navy. They were married in 1950 and moved to Kentucky in 1953. After 45 years of marriage he passed away on April 5, 1995. Her only sibling, Olive Sykes and her husband Doug, also preceded her in death. She resided in Rome with her son Dr. Gregory Richardson and his wife Shirley for the past three years. She is also survived by one grandson, Adam Richardson of Nashville, TN and his wife Sarah Allen. Two nieces and a nephew and their families in Australia also survive her. She was a member of Southland Christian Church in Lexington, Kentucky.

The family will receive friends Saturday April 25, 2015 from 1 until 2 pm at Daniel’s Funeral Home. A final interment will be with her husband in Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Nicholasville, Kentucky at a later date.
