Dr. Roszel was born December 25, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Obediah Emerson Roszel and Marjorie Louise Smiley Roszel. He was raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan and graduated from the University of Michigan with a DDS degree. He served as a Navy Lt. Commander in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969 in the Navy Dental Corps aboard the USS Mercer in the Mekong Delta. As a med cap, Dr. Roszel went into the villages to provide dental care to the Vietnamese people as a part of a medical team. After serving in Vietnam, Dr. Roszel had an oral surgery practice in Michigan. He also was head resident of an anesthesiologist practice in Bay City, MI. Later moving to Rome, GA, he started the NW Georgia Mobile Dental Clinic. He retired in May 2011, but continued his cases and teaching students for the Medical School of Georgia.
Dr. Roszel was a loving father and grandfather. He was an avid reader, ice hockey fan, gun collector, and loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He led an interesting life and travelled to Germany for his son, Joshua’s, wedding to Michalea and to Mexico.
Survivors include his wife, Sharlyn Beth Shaw Roszel, of Rome; sons, James Brandon Roszel, of Boston, MA and Joshua Shaw Hearn and wife Michalea, of Ft. Benning, GA; daughters, Christine Elizabeth Roszel and husband, Morgan, of Los Angeles, CA and Amanda Hearn Sims and husband, Brian, of San Diego, CA; six grandchildren, Esme Roszel, Eve Roszel, Joey Roszel, Emma Hearn, Liam Hearn, and Kaida Sims; a brother David Roszel and wife, Linda of Milford, MI; and a sister, Amy Roszel.
