Edward C Smith

Edward Charles Smith, age 91, of Rome, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2025.

Ed was born on April 4, 1933 in New York City, New York, he was the son of the late Charles Martin Smith and the late Elizabeth McMahon Smith. Ed proudly served his country in the United States Navy. After his service he went on to receive two different master’s Degrees. He worked at General Electric from 1957 until 1993. He also owned and operated Qualortran Inc. He was an avid marathon runner and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Barbara Peterson Smith; his sons, Bruce David Smith (Carolyn) and Eric Craig Smith (Betsy); his grandchildren, Catherine Smith, Virginia Smith and Craig Smith; his daughter-in-law, Laura Ann Moore; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Edward Smith, Jr. and Mark Stephen Smith; his grandson, Christopher Adam Smith; and his siblings, Patricia Hipp, Virginia Creel, Arthur Smith and Charlotte Zopfi.

A Biblical Wake will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025 at 2:00 pm with Deacon Stuart Neslin officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 21, 2025 from 1:00 pm until the service time.
