

Mrs. Ethel Idell Zickler Childers, age 98, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at a local hospital.
She was born on June 8, 1927 in Roselle Park, NJ, the daughter of the late John Henry Zickler and the late Cora Pearl Lax Zickler and raised by her late grandfather, Fredrick Zickler.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Wilburn Childers, Sr.; her son, Jack Wilburn Childers, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyne Nichols Murphy; her grandson, William Rand Nichols; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Childers was a member of North Broad Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School General Secretary, member of The Ruth Class, and sang in the Golden Heirs Choir. She was a member of the FFF Club and of the Homebound Ministry, and also served as church office volunteer.
She was employed by Sears, Roebuck and Company from 1955 to 1990. After retiring she enjoyed doing volunteer work and was secretary for the Sears Retiree Club for 20 years. She drove for Senior Transport for the Floyd County Baptist Association and volunteered at Harbin Clinic and Good Neighbors Ministry.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home with her Pastor Micah Pritchett officiating and her grandson, Rand Nichols delivering the eulogy.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Daniel’s Funeral Home from 1:00 pm until the service time.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request donations be made to Good Neighbors Ministry or North Broad Baptist Church Home Bound Ministry.
