

Mrs. Inez Mathis Tumlin, age 86, of Rome, GA, passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 22, 2017. Inez was born in Ellijay, GA on Feb. 16, 1931, daughter of the late Ira Claude Mathis and Flora Ellis Mathis.
Inez was a successful business woman. She helped operate Smith Drugs in Greenwood, SC until the passing of her husband Don in 1971. She established Regency Sportswear, a ladies clothing store on N. Broad Street in 1973 and operated the business until retirement in 1995. She was awarded the Small Business Of The Year Award in 1991 by the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce. Inez was an avid golfer, tennis player, and outstanding duplicate bridge player. She earned her Life Master Certificate for bridge competition in 2010. Inez was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rome.
Inez was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Richard Tumlin. She is survived her son Richard Harrison Tumlin and wife Jennifer Parker Tumlin, and two grandsons Parker Harrison Tumlin and Matthew Richard Tumlin, all of Brentwood, Tn.; two brothers Benjamin Claude Mathis and Ira Harrison Mathis, and two sisters Betty Mathis Miller and Bobby Mathis Burton all of Rome, Ga.
On Monday, Sept. 25, the family received friends from1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Daniel’s Funeral Home on East 2nd Ave. in Rome. A memorial service for Inez was held at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Daniel’s with the Rev. Larry Caywood officiating. Interment followed at East View Cemetery.
