

Mrs. Gittings was born on June 22, 1926, in Dwight IL, the daughter of the late Henry Siedentop and Jane Weaver Siedentop. She was married to her beloved husband of 67 years Joseph Gittings on November 30, 1947. Mrs. Gittings was a dedicated spouse and mother, substitute schoolteacher, gardener and engraver for the family business, Ford, Gittings & Kane Jewelers. She was previously active in Trinity United Methodist Church, Camellia Garden Club and the Western Promenaders Square-dance Club. She was preceded in death by parents, brothers Raymond and Dale Siedentop, a son Joseph Henry Gittings and grandson James Robert Agurkis.
She is survived by her beloved husband Joseph Gittings of Rome; four daughters and their husbands: Paula (Ron) Stone of Mars Hill, NC, Diane (Robert) Agurkis, of Lincolnton, GA, Jessica (Jim) McCann of Franklin TN, and Alice(Jeff) Herring of Rome, GA; grandchildren, Michael (Sarah) Agurkis, Andrea Gittings, Jim McCann, Jack McCann, Mark McCann, Carson Shaw and Jackson Shaw; great-grandchild, Rachel Agurkis; brother, Henry (Norma) Siedentop; and honorary Gittings family member, Marion Hoskins.
The family received friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Sunday, September 21, 2014, from 2 until 4 p.m. The funeral service followed in the Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home with Dr. David Campbell and the Rev. David Wilson officiating.
A graveside service was held Monday, September 22, 2014 at 12 p.m. (Central time) at Old Union Cemetery in Jackson Gap, AL with the Rev. David Wilson officiating.
