
Julia was a native Roman, born on March 3, 1951, the daughter of the late Gene and Martha Payne Hilburn. Her only brother, Bill Hilburn, also preceded her in death.
In her early years she worked as the bookkeeper at the family shoe store, Hilburn's Shoes. Later she worked as a real estate agent and was semi-retired from Toles, Temple and Wright.
During her time as a Broad Street merchant, Julia worked on several committees to improve the downtown area. She is past state president of the Business and Professional Women's Organization. As a community volunteer, she has served the city on the Alcohol Control Commission. She has been an active member of the Exchange Club and served for several years as the chairman of the annual "Night at the Movies" fundraiser. She also served on the board of the Coosa Valley Fair. She was also on the reunion committee for her East Rome class where she and her husband attended high school. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Fred Dent; step-mother, Mae Hilburn, Macon; sisters-in-law, Lynn Hilburn, Cartersville, and Lisa Hilburn, Rome; brother-in-law, Jim Dent, Rome; cousins, Jeannie Taylor, Rome, Dianne Beattie, Raleigh, NC, and Kristen Beattie, New York; niece, Elizabeth Hilburn, Rome; nephew, Patrick Hilburn, Washington , DC, area, Jonathan Dent, Tyler, TX, and a number of other cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 19, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jeff Chadwick officiating. Interment will follow in the East View Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Exchange Club and the East Rome Class of ’69.
The family will receive friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Friday, March 18, 2016, from 6 until 8 p.m.
