Margaret Lindsey defied gravity throughout her life. Nearly a decade after her birth to James and Idella Dower in Marengo, Iowa, she endured the hardships of the Great Depression before serving her country as a Navy nurse in World War II on the USS Repose during which she survived a typhoon and Japanese Kamikaze pilots. She then ran the Red Cross in southeast Michigan and subsequently met her husband Neil Dexter Comerford, Jr. with whom she would have her only son James Dower Comerford. When tragedy struck nine years into their marriage with the death of her husband, she and her son left Michigan and settled in Atlanta, Georgia. She then met Dr. Mark Lindsey, who furthered her world travel while they otherwise enjoyed life during thirty five years of marriage before his passing in 2008. Margaret Lindsey survived cancer many times and possessed youth, vigor, and a wit that were not commensurate with her age unto the end.
She is survived by her only son James Comerford (Camilla), her step sons, Mark Lindsey, Jr. (Mary), William (Helen), and David (Kimberly), seven grandchildren James Comerford, Jr., Joseph Comerford, Margaret Comerford, David Lindsey (Lisa Marie), Drew Lindsey (Susie), Sarah McCrea (John), Todd Lindsey, and four great grandchildren: Sabrina Lindsey, Lindsey McCrea, Elise McCrea and Caroline McCrea.
Margaret Lindsey was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
