

Norma G. DavisMrs. Norma G. Davis, age 77, of 713 Thomas Bluff Rd., Rome, passed away Monday night January 4, 2010.Mrs. Davis was born November 25, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Oren O’neal Dodd and Era Goswick Dodd. Mrs. Davis attended Model High School, The Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, GA., West Georgia College of Carrollton, and the Weaver Airline School where she trained to become a flight attendant for Delta Airlines. She was an avid reader. She enjoyed her extensive collection of books every day often reading well into the evening. Mrs. Davis was a member of the “Sierra Club” and enjoyed reading the National Geographic publications as well as Saudi Aramco World. She loved and had compassion for others regardless of their status in life. She deeply loved flowers, wild life, and horses. She was fascinated by the changing weather and the beauty of the moon and especially loved the Gulf of Mexico. The Oostanaula River was a very special place with many memories of her child hood where she cherished the native wildflowers found there. She would say, “Thomas Bluff, her home, was a sanctuary for all creatures.”Mrs. Davis is survived by her husband Robert (Bobby) G. Davis of Rome, one son Timothy O’neal Davis (Pamela K. Pappy), and Christopher S. Smith of Rome; two daughters Naomi Theresa Weaver and her husband Jeffery S. Weaver of Rome, and Yvonne E. (Missy) Shiffer and her husband Erik G. Shiffer of Graty, Belgium; two grandchildren Grace G. Curran and Jackson G. Shiffer of Graty, Belgium, and one brother Walter O. Dodd (Sonny Boy) and his wife Betty R. Dodd of Rome. One nephew Lance A. Dodd and one niece Cynthia Ann Leonard also survive.Services for Mrs. Davis will be conducted Friday January 8, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Rush Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry E. Russell and Rev. Bobby Stephens officiating. Mrs. Davis will also lie in state at the church from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the cemetery of Rush Chapel. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Daniel’s Funeral Home. Those serving as Pallbearers are Tommy Barron, Billy Barron, Thad Rush, Glenn “Little Glenn” Davis, Thornton W. Morris and W. H. Pelfrey. Those asked to serve as honorary pallbearers are John G. Reeves, Wayne B. Reeves, Jr., John Self, William Self, Jerry Dempsey, and Patrick C. Locklear.Flowers will be accepted at Daniel’s Funeral Home or memorial contributions may be sent to Rush Chapel United Methodist Church 1225 Rush chapel Rd. N.E.
