Mr. Roper was born in Floyd County, GA, on September 3, 1928, son of the late William Alfred Roper and the late Lula Marie Lewis Roper. He retired from Western Electric after 45 years of service and was an avid train fan. Mr. Roper served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1954.
Survivors include his wife, Frances H. Roper; sons Robert D. Roper of Alto, GA and Randolph B. Roper of Buford, GA; daughters Sylvia R. Brewer of Roswell, GA and Tammy R. Bentley of Alpharetta, GA; four grandsons, one great-grandson; sisters Doris Nabors of Dalton, GA and Catherine Stanfield of Rome, GA.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 16, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Daniel’s Funeral Home Chapel, Rome, GA, with Pastor Daniel Hall officiating, assisted by Rev. Edgar Mason. Interment will follow at Floyd Memory Gardens with the Honor Guard of the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion in charge of military rites.
The family will receive friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Sunday, September 16, 2012, from 2 until 3 p.m. prior to the funeral.
