
Mrs. Duncan was born in Birmingham, AL, on January 29, 1927, the daughter of the late Richard Shelburne and Kate Green Shelburne. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Duncan, Sr. on February 15, 1997, and by a daughter, Susanne Shelburne Duncan.
Mrs. Duncan was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rome, and served as first president of the Floyd Medical Center Pink Ladies. She was an avid Bridge and Duplicate player and was a member of the Coosa Country Club.
Survivors include two sons, John B. (Lea) Duncan, Jr., Rome, and Philip A. Duncan, Rome; one daughter, Virginia D. (Mark) Simpson, Atlanta; four grandchildren, Bailey (Shannon) Duncan, Griffin Duncan, Susan Simpson and Caroline Simpson; and one sister, Kathryn (Tom) Murray, Seattle, WA.
A memorial service were held Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at 2:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Joel Snider officiating. An interment service will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the graveside in the Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family received friends in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church on Wednesday following the memorial service.
