
She was born April 25, 1933 in Gadsden, Alabama, daughter of Virginia and Louis Shepard. In addition to raising five children, Ginger was active in the community. She served on the Board of Directors for Network Day Service Center for over 15 years. She was a founding member of the Chiaha Guild, an officer in Seven Hills Garden Club, and a member of the Colonial Dames Society. Ginger also served on the board of the Rome Area Heritage Foundation and the Rome Area Council for the Arts. She was a member of the Rome Junior Service League and the Rome First United Methodist Church.
Ginger was preceded in death by her husband, John Porter Grant and by her sons, John Porter Grant, Jr. and Louis Shepard Grant.
She is survived by a brother, Neel Shepard (Margaret); her daughters, Anne Harbin (Frank), Virginia Grant and Frances Grant; her grandchildren, Allison Model, Eliza Renner and Grant Harbin, many nieces and nephews and her lifelong friend, Charlie Huguley.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 23, 2015, at 12:00 noon at the First United Methodist Church of Rome. A private burial followed the service at Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family received visitors in the Wilder Center at the church from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour.
