

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William Thomas “Tom” Collum, age 74, on March 27, 2026 after an extended illness resulting in respiratory arrest. He left us peacefully with his devoted wife, Rose, for over 40 years and close friend Marsie Whittemore at his bedside. Tom was a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle and friend. He had a multitude of friends he considered family.
Born on January 20, 1952 in Booneville, Mississippi, he grew up as the youngest son of the late Dr. Tillman Ballenger and Edith RaMelle Collum. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Sandra Collum and Mary Martin Little. His brother, Robert “Bob” Collum currently resides in Hoover, Alabama.
On July 23, 1985, Tom married his devoted wife Elizabeth Rose Collum. He devoted his life to caring for others as a public servant at Central Alabama Veterans Healthcare System. Tom had an outgoing, selfless and caring personality. He enjoyed helping others and always showed compassion to those in need. He never complained about his own physical struggles. He was a light that made the world a better place.
His family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals for providing excellent care during his last days at Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held to celebrate Tom’s life on Monday, April 6, 2026 at 12:00 pm in the Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 6, 2026 from 10:00 am until the service time. Interment will follow at 2:00 pm in Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Disabled American Veterans Association.
