
William Wesley Langley, age 85, of 5th Avenue Health Care, passed away at a local hospital Monday February 14, 2011. Mr. Langley was born in Floyd County August 2, 1925. He was the son of the late Wheeler Langley and Marguerite Rush Langley. He was also preceded in death by his wife Mrs. Doris Collier Langley whom he married on September 25, 1950, and a brother Henley Langley.
Mr. Langley grew up in Rome and attended Rome High School. He then joined the Merchant Marines and served in WWII from 1943 to 1945. While in the Merchant Marines he served as an officer in the engine room. After returning to Rome from the war he worked for Butler Shoes on Broad St. It was mentioned that the Butler Shoe Co. on Broad St. had the first air conditioned business on the street. He later went to work for the Brown Shoe Company as a salesman, and he retired with the Nina Shoe Co.
He is survived by one son David Langley, a daughter; Debbie Brock and her husband Frank of Rome, four grandchildren; Stephanie Grant and her husband Justin of Winder, Joey Brock of Newnan, Hailee Jones and her husband Brandon of Ackworth and Christopher Jenkins and his wife Sarah of Washington, D.C., three great grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, one brother; Sammy Langley and his wife Micki of Rome, and a sister Lynn Carroll and her husband, Jim of Rome also survive.
A graveside Service for Mr. Langley was conducted Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Rev. Billy Fricks officiating. The family received friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Those serving as pallbearers are Brad Langley and Aaron Carroll. Daniel’s Funeral Home has charge of the funeral arrangements.
