Eeli Henrik Simonson passed away quietly at his home in Dinsmore, SK on October 27, 2013, with his three children by his side, he was 94 years old. Eeli was born in Dunblane SK on November 7, 1918 to Ida and Nestor Simonson. His grandfather was Heikki Simonson (Simontaival). By the age of nine he was an orphan and at the age of 16 he was living independently. He spent his early 20’s overseas with the Canadian war effort and after the war went to Vancouver, BC. He acquired a logging job and while logging on Pender Island, Eeli met his wife Edith Teece and they married in 1948. He then attended a watchmaking school in Vancouver and soon opened his first Jewelry Store. Antero, Aaro and Eila were born in Vancouver. The family moved to Salmon Arm, BC in 1960 and Eeli opened another store and worked a small farm to help feed his growing family. His wife Edith passed away in 1976. A few years later Eeli re-met an old school friend, Wylma Hanson and they spent many years together in Dinsmore, SK. For a few years they had a store in Dinsmore, but fishing and retirement were the main activites. Eeli is survived by his companion Wylma Hanson, his three children Antero, Aaro (Peg) and Eila (Ron), five grandsons, Niko, Erik, Leon, Chance and Tahvo and great-grandson Evan. Father had many interests and he liked to help people. He has left us with our memories, a legacy of lessons and his legendary sense of humour. We are grateful! In keeping with Eeli’s wishes, there will be no service. Condolences for the family may be left at www.clementsrosetownfuneralhome.com Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Clements Rosetown Funeral Home (306) 882-2662.
