

Frederick Joseph Selsey, of Harris passed away on August 15 2013 at the Eston Jubilee Lodge where he had been a resident for the last 2 years at the age of 95 years. Fred was born June 16, 1918 at the family farm at Harris. He attended Hillview School where he began his lifelong pursuit of learning. Fred led a very interesting life. He worked in Pulp Camps in northern Ontario, did carpentry work in northern British Columbia and on Vancouver Island, guided and surveyed in North Eastern British Columbia where he met and married Betty, his wife of 64 years in 1949. In 1950, they returned to Harris and in 1957 moved into the home they built at Crystal Beach. He raised Galloway cattle; he became an Amateur Radio Operator and an avid member of the Severe Weather Watch. They always enjoyed dancing, they attended many square dances and eventually took up pattern dancing where they travelled far and wide to attend dances and teach others. Later they put a dance floor in an addition to their home and held many dances complete with live bands. Fred was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Edith, his brothers Arthur in 1984 and George in 1985 and great-grandson Michael Williamson in 2003. He is survived by his wife Betty, three daughters Nita (Alana and Kara), Linda and Donald (Audra, Bruce, Brent, Rose) and Beverley and Russ and numerous great grandchildren. A Memorial Tea will be held to celebrate his life at New Horizon’s Hall in Harris on Saturday, August 31, 2013 from 2-4pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Fred’s name gratefully accepted for Eston Jubilee Lodge.
