Gwen Jones of Kyle, Saskatchewan passed away at the Kyle Health Centre on September 29, 2013 at the age of 87. She was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and attended the Sion Convent with her sister Elaine. Her mother, Betsy Walkley, was a Lady’s Maid in England and a homemaker in Canada. Her father, Wilfred Walkley was a guard at the Prince Albert penitentiary. Gwen worked as a nurse’s aide in the sanatorium and a photographer’s assistant before moving to the farm between Elrose and Kyle with her husband Charles Jones. Gwen and Charlie married in 1948 after meeting at a dance. They had two children, Wayne and Susan, and five grandchildren, Aaron (Lea) and Chris (Stevie) Jones, and Toni (Scott) Ritchie, Jenny, and Justin (Nicole) Allport. Gwen also had 7 great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Gwen and Charlie enjoyed farming and gardening together, camping at the Saskatchewan Landing in their RV and vacationing at the family cabin at Emma Lake. They worked hard on the farm, laughed a lot, visited with friends and family, and played cribbage regularly for the prestigious title of ‘Winner of All Times.” Gwen lived on the farm until her husband’s passing in 1988, and then moved into an apartment in Kyle. She continued to enjoy knitting, crocheting, sewing, reading Dick Francis books, and watching old classic movies. She collected Teddy Bears decorating her apartment with them for all seasons. She loved sitting outside in the yard on her swing, watching the birds and the flowers. Her sister Elaine was her best friend. They spent time at each other’s houses and frequently chatted on the phone. Gwen was predeceased by her mother and father, husband Charles, sister Elaine Kelly, sister-in law Phyllis Argue, and brothers-in-law Eric Jones and John Jones. She is survived by her brothers-in-law Jerry Kelly and David Jones, and sister-in-law Edna Jones. Memorial Donations may be made to the Kyle District Health Care Foundation, P.O.
