

Haldora Elliott of Saskatoon, SK passed away peacefully at Porteous Lodge on March 2, 2014 at the age of 87 years. Haldora was born on the Gunnlaugson family farm near D’Arcy on October 21, 1926 to Bjorn and Viola Gunnlaugson. The early years were spent on the farm growing up with three brothers, three sisters and down the road from her grandparents, Charles and Edith Thompson. After completing normal school she attend teachers college and began to teach on reserves and finally at Toft Hill where she met Gordon Elliott. Haldora and Gordon settled on a farm west of Herschel and raised a family of six. Haldora managed the family home along with vegetable gardens, flower gardens and getting her brood to the many activities in which they were involved. After her own kids were grown up she returned to teaching and loved all her special kindergarten kids. She stayed by Gordon’s side as he battled cancer and after his death in 1991, continued to live on the farm until 2002. Haldora developed Alzheimer’s and finally had to move off the farm and into Saskatoon. She maintained her own condominium until 2009 when she moved to Cedar Gardens. In 2013 after a brief stay at St. Paul’s Hospital she made Porteous Lodge her home until the time of her passing. Haldora is survived by her six children, thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren: Doug (Jeannie) of High Prairie, AB and their children Rae-Anne (Kelsey) Fjeld (and their children Gracelynn and Colby) and Crystal (Conan) Ochran; Steven (Pat) of Saskatoon, SK and their children Chase and Dane; Laura (Mark) McKay of Smithers, BC and their children Ryan (Evy) (and their children Allison, Lane, Lily and Ella) and Amanda (Tyson); Eric (Janice) of Toronto, ON and their children Josh, Sean and Kiara; Ray (Pam) of Russell, MB and their children Ian and Colin; Michael (Cheryl) of Smithers, BC and their children Ashley and Abigail. She is also survived by her sister Edith Ridsdale; brothers Leo and Walter (Dorothy); sisters in law Joan Gunnlaugson, Thora Gunnlaugson and Marion Elliott; brother in law Tom Leakey, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Gordon in 1991; her parents Bjorn and Viola; brothers Ray and Alfred; sister Ruth Leakey; brothers in law David Ridsdale, Carl Beaton, Jim Elliott, Bert Elliott; sisters in law Amy Beaton and Pat Elliott and some very special nephews and nieces. A Funeral Service was held on Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Rosetown United Church with Rev. Jo-Ann Hills officiating. Music during the service was provided by Brenda Hamilton. Interment was held at the Herschel Cemetery. The Rosetown UCW provided a wonderful lunch. Honorary Pallbearers were all of Haldora's family and friends. The Active Pallbearers were Haldora's grandchildren. Donations in memory of Haldora may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Amanda Starosta of Clements Rosetown Funeral Home.
