The family of Raymond Gordon wants to inform his friends and neighbors of his passing on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the Rosetown Nursing Wing. Raymond was born on the family farm near Harris on June 18, 1917. He was the oldest of three sons born to Fred and Elizabeth Gordon. Except for a short time as a young child spent in Bounty and the last few years at the Rosetown Nursing Wing, his entire life was lived at Harris. Life for Raymond revolved around family, farming and friends. In June of 1952 he married Clara Berg and together they farmed for over 40 years. Many memories remain of those years, tailgate suppers in the field, the old dog carrying a nephews lunch pail in from the school bus and laughter, lots of laughter with friends who would drop in for coffee, or maybe even something a little stronger. In later years Raymond took a more supervisory role on the farm, but to the end he always took great pride in “HIS” crops. The cottage at Waden Bay was another source of great joy for Raymond. Thanks to wonderful neighbors at the lake, he and Clara were able to spend many happy days there until they were both well into their eighties. Anyone who lived in Harris would recognize Raymond’s red truck as he made his daily trip to coffee row or his twice daily trip to the Credit Union (once to do his banking and once to pick up his mail or his cane that he had forgotten there). It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say he was an unforgettable man! His parents Fred and Elizabeth, his brothers Harry and Jack, his wife of 51 years Clara, sisters-in-law Marie Campbell, Ieleen Gordon and Jenny Weenk, brothers-in-law Selmer Berg, Ben Weenk and Ingolff Berg and nephews Mac Campbell, Robbie Campbell and Glen Gordon predeceased Raymond. He is survived by sister-in-law Helen Berg, nephews George (Linda) Campbell, Maryanne Heese (nephew Robbie’s life partner), Jim (Katherine) Berg, Ken (Carol) Berg, Russ (Kathleen) Gordon, Joan Gordon (nephew Glen’s wife), nieces Linda (Bert) Caffery, Lee Ann Gordon and several great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his best little buddy (and future hope for the Gordon farm) eight year old great nephew Benjamin. A Funeral Service was held at the Harris United Church on Thursday, November 28 at 11:00 a.m. Interment followed in the Harris Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Harris United Church, Harris Cemetery Fund or the Rosetown Nursing Wing. Condolences for the family may be left at www.clementsrosetownfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Clements Rosetown Funeral Home (306) 882-2662.
