Surrounded by her loving family, Britt Dinsmore passed away on March 2, 2011, in Roseville, CA. She is survived by her son, Thomas Matthew Dinsmore Jr. (Pam); her daughters, Lorraine Haake and Lisa Dinsmore; and 5 grandchildren, Tommy and Sean Dinsmore, Jessica Fraser and Tyler and Erin Haake. She is also survived by her nephews in Sweden, Goran (Kerstin) and Mats Tellander and her lifelong friend, Gloria Fraley of Granite Bay. She was 88.
Born Britt-Inger Tellander on June 19, 1922, in Goteborg, Sweden, she was swept off her feet by a dashing sailor (Thomas Matthew Dinsmore), left her Swedish homeland in 1949 and came to America where she lived a wonderful life. The young couple married in New York, then moved to San Francisco and finally settling in San Bruno, where they lived for 40 years, raising their three children. In 1990 they retired to Granite Bay where they enjoyed entertaining the family - especially around the holidays - and taking in the beautiful view from their backyard deck. Tom Dinsmore Sr. passed away in 1997.
In her younger days, Britt traveled throughout Europe and loved sharing stories about trips to Paris. When she and Tom married, it was a whirlwind romance because he was a merchant seaman who was home for 3 months, then gone for 3 months. And although she lived in the U.S. for more than 60 years, she was a true-blue Swede. She was fluent in the language and burned up the phone lines between California and Goteborg, keeping in close contact with her nephew, Goran. She was opinionated, loved a good book and was always available for her children and grandchildren, whom she loved from the day they were born.
Britt will be greatly missed by her family and friends. At her request, services will be private.
Arrangements under the direction of Lambert Funeral Home, Roseville, CA.
