Leslie Homer Cook, 94, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on October 31, 2017. Known to most as Les, he was born in Escalon, CA on July 18, 1923. His father, Leslie and mother, Lelia, moved to Roseville with their eldest daughter, Mary Jane, when Les was just 3 months old. Together they had four more children: Madelyn, Kenny, Barbara, and Joan. Les lived, worked and raised his family throughout the rest of his years, in Roseville, CA.
Les was a decorated war veteran who honorably served our country in World War II, beginning in 1941, at age 18, through the end of the war in 1945. For a period of time, he had the honor to serve under General Patton along with the Band of Brothers, and was also a competitive military boxer, at one point fighting against Max Baer. Upon leaving the service, Les met and married his first wife Delores, whom gave birth to their daughter Cheryle in 1950. Also in 1950, Les became a railroad switchman, and proceeded to spend the next 37 years as a rail man here in Roseville. In 1955 Les married his second wife Martha. Les survived Martha, whom passed in 2010 after 55 years of marriage. Their long life together included the birth of their son, Steven in 1957. Les and Martha shared many adventures, as avid hunters, fishermen, and members of the Maya Bow Hunters Club of Roseville from 1955 through 1971. Together, they won many local events throughout the years, and Les finished 3rd in the 1969 National Bow Hunters Competition. As Les and Martha retired together, they became devoted travelers, often taking their motor home to Quartzite, AZ, as Les was a rock and outdoor enthusiast. The only thing Les loved more than living life to the fullest, was sharing that life with his family.
Les is survived by his sister, two children and their loving families: Sister Joan, Daughter Cheryle, Son in Law Michael, three grandchildren Renée, Ryan, and Nichole, and two great-grandchildren Ashley and Calvin; Son Steven, Daughter in Law Candi, three grandchildren Stacey, Jill, and Kristin, and six great-grandchildren Dylan, Grace, Avrey, Luke, Brody, and Isabella.
Services will be held Saturday November 11th at 11 a.m at Lambert Funeral Home, in Roseville. A viewing will take place on Friday November 10th from 5pm to 8pm for any members of the community whom would like to pay their respects.
