Margret, just found out about Roys passing.  Very sad.  Always enjoyed working with Roy sometimes in EPA, sometimes in transportation.  Loved playing flag football especially when Santa flew onto Sequoia field in SMSOs helicopter, probably flown by Les Caldwell!

I found Roy's memories here because of his having been on What's My Line  two days after I was born and I looked him up to see how he fared in life. He looks the same on both the TV show and his picture here. He seems to have been a wonderful guy almost 60 years apart. A wonderful fellow and nice guy! Coincidence and happenstance!

Margaret, was so sorry to hear about Roy. I always enjoyed his upbeat attitude and spirit. Always enjoyed his early days stories about the Giants and admired his passion for staying involved in sports, his basketball officiating and working at the Giants Spring Training.

Roy was always a pleasure to work with and he will be missed.

Roy moved into our neighborhood as a teen and became an instant friend to me and my entire family. He was the best. Always upbeat, everyone liked Roy.  Later in life he earned a great reputation with his fellow Deputies. I know that even his prisoners respected him because of his fairness and good nature.

Meet him, never got to know him but remember him as a smiling face guy. After 4 years in the 
Marine Corps l joined the Sheriff,Office  Feb 1 63. now living on Salt Spring BC with Xena a silver bengal and my pleasure craft is a Nordic Tug. Rich Trammel has visited me on his vintage 1939 motorcycle.

Margaret so sorry to hear the bad news. I know it was sudden and that makes it even more difficult. My prayers are with you and you family. Roy was such a unique individual and will be truly missed.

Roy always had a ready smile and was great in dealing with the many problem people we dealt with in court.  He will be trult missed. 

Roy McKercher was one of a kind.  Thinking back to our crazy days of Donkey Baseball, Raft Races, County Softball tournaments, Christmas dances at Marine World Africa USA ... Roy was always a bright light and huge part of any event where SO friends and families gathered.  His smile and laugh were infectious, and his wiggly walk down the hallway with determination is an image I will always remember. He had such a kind-hearted caring personality, and I am lucky to have known him and call him friend.  To Bobby, Tim, Margaret and all of Roy's family, I am so sorry for your loss, and I hope you find peace in the fact that he was loved and respected by so many.  God Speed Roy ~

I knew Roy when I covered the court beat for the Redwood City Tribune and San Mateo Times from 1971 to 1985, working out of the press room at the Hall of Justice.  Great guy. I wrote a story about him once focusing on his dual career in law enforcement and officiating.

Im saddened to hear of Roys passing. I worked many hours with him and yes I can still picture his smile and great attitude. He was proud to be a Deputy Sheriff. He is liked by many for the superb job he did for San Mateo County. He is missed but memories live on forever. Condolences from our Family to the Mckercher Family and friends. I was blessed to know Roy and have him as a mentor when I was a young Deputy, he took his valuable time to truly teach what was valued and needed. Im very sorry for your loss god bless you and your family during these difficult times.

Roy McKercher was a respected senior Deputy who pulled aside many "bubble-gum snapping youngsters" and saved their future careers by focusing them on hard work. Roy was also a courageous advocate for the fair treatment of fellow Deputy Sheriff's and Correctional Officers within the workplace. I remember Roy was not afraid to take a stand and stand-up for others, which was a quality many coworkers and peers admired.  Roy was dedicated to his family and was proud of his son who joined him at our Sheriff's Office.

Just a couple of months ago, Roy and I were talking by telephone and remembered we were San Francisco home boys. We promised we would talk again in a short time about the old days in S.F. and our careers in the SMSO. I'm so sorry that time did not arrive.  Margaret, my deepest sympathies and prayers are with you. Roy was a good man and a fine Deputy Sheriff.

As one of Roy's "Bubblegum snappers" I loved working with him at the former SNCCF and RWC and hearing his funny stories from the past. My favorite was the time he was driving the transportation bus full of inmates from Northern Court back to RWC, when at a SSF stop light an elderly woman frantically tapped on the glass door. Roy pulled the lever to swing open the glass doors for the woman who took a step up and asked aloud, "Are you going to Tanforan?"  Even the inmates howled with laughter. Thanks for the memories Roy. 

On behalf of the 600+ members of the Sheriff's Office Association, we join Margaret, Bobby and Tim along with all extended family members in mourning the loss of Roy. Our membership was greatly saddened to learn of Roy's passing and have been proud to count him among our members.  Roy will always will be remembered as one who truly cared about others; his broad smile seemingly ever present.  He embodied a hard working personal ethic and valued family above all else. Please accept our condolences and warm wishes for fond memories of Roy to comfort you and fill your days as you move forward.

Roy was a fine gentlemen who I met at ATT Park in 2012 and then went to Cooperstown with him and his sons soon there after.
