Many people knew Thomas Michael Butcher as many things. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Thomas will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
Born to Miles and Mary Butcher March 1, 1949 in San Francisco, CA.
Thomas grew up on Prague St. in San Francisco along with his nine siblings, Kathy, Joan, Loretta, Marilyn, Rita, Carol, Nancy, Barbara and Jerry. Growing up in a large family with predominantly women Thomas was quickly molded into a fun loving kind hearted Gentleman.
In 1967 at the young age of 18 Thomas enlisted in the United States Army, where Thomas served as a medic for a year in Vietnam. He received several awards recognizing him for his service, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 5 Bronze Service Stars, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. His fellow soldiers viewed him as a brother in arms and knew that he was as much a part of their family as their loved ones back home.
Upon Thomas’s Return to the States he transitioned into Driving Ambulance and Taxi in San Francisco, CA, displaying his never ending ambitions to always help others; He later began working with the Forestry Service in Susanville before becoming a bus driver for the San Juan Unified School District in 1983 to later become a dispatcher. Fortunately, Thomas enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Thomas worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. Thomas always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done. Thomas Later retired in November of 2004.
Walking into the Butcher household on a night of a San Francisco Giants or 49ers game would always give you a true depiction of who Thomas was. He was a San Francisco sports fan to the core. Anyone boasting the Black and Orange or Red and Gold was family in his book, the passion and dedication Thomas showed towards these teams was amazing but at the same time was nothing compared to the passion and dedication that He showed to those he cared about. Thomas was an amazing Husband to Victoria Butcher, Father to Jacob Butcher, Jeremy Butcher, and Lindsay Butcher and Step Father to Shane Johnson and Raymond Bryant. Thanks to Thomas all nine of the grandchildren and the one on the way will always be loud and proud San Francisco Giants Fans.
Thomas passed away on March 14, 2012 in Citrus Heights, California. Services were held at Lambert Funeral Home. Thomas was laid to rest in the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, California.
Simply stated, Thomas was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Thomas leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Thomas Michael Butcher.
