

David K. Loren, 67, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on March 31, 2016. He was born to Gerald "Gerry" & Ruth (nee Rosin) Loren in Detroit, Michigan on December 15, 1948. When Dave was 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in Vietnam on a "Swift Boat" as a Bosun's Mate 3rd Class and later a Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class. Wounded in action on January 14, 1970, Dave received the Purple Heart medal.
Dave was the oldest of six children. He participated in Scouting as a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout in his youth. He loved to cook, especially "from scratch". He was a cook for fourteen years at the Boat Works and later for six years at the Blue Goose Inn, both in St. Clair Shores. Dave loved to play poker. He was located at the poker table at any family gathering. He was a Life Member of the VFW Cpl. Walter F. Bruce Post #1146 in St. Clair Shores. Dave was a loving grandfather who attended many of his grandchildren's events. He would come over to their house and cook dinner combining two of his favorite passions.
Dave is survived by his daughter, Hope (Mark) Karschnia, four grandchildren, Loren and Alex Karschnia, Brock Kamlay and Nick Lacca; five siblings, Rick Loren, Pam (Alan) Streu, Carole (Stan) Dziubinski, Brian (Lorena) Loren and Steve Loren. Eight nephews and nieces, fourteen great-nephews and nieces also survive. Dave was pre-deceased by his parents, Gerald “Gerry” and Ruth, and his daughter, Amy. Friends may visit Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 2:30 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 7:00 p.m. at Kaul Funeral Home 27830 Gratiot Avenue, Roseville.
