I've just learned of Prof. Skelland's passing.  I was a student of his at Ga Tech in 1980, then acquainted again during grad school there in the late 80's.  Several years later I ran across him at a popular restaurant in Roswell, where he was well-known for holding court at the bar there and entertaining the patrons with his many stories.  My favorite memory of him was his tongue-in-cheek thesis entitled 'A New and Revolutionary Approach to Theology', where he proved, through multiple quotes from the bible and application of heat transfer and laws of thermodynamics, that 'Heaven is Actually Hotter Than Hell'.  He will be missed.

For almost twenty years, I had the pleasure of knowing Peter from the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at St. Joseph Emory Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia.  

Peter was always an extremely 
interesting well educated gentleman.  We
loved long discussions regarding time
spent in London, New York, Chicago and
Longboat Key!

politically, the epicure of wonderful food, great wine and a life well lived!  And, most
if all, thank you for your friendship—you will be missed—Rest In Peace Peter!

Prof. Skelland was one of my favorite professors at Georgia Tech.   I really enjoyed his lectures and would often visit him during office hours.  I found his stories and life lessons fascinating and I often quote him still today.  He was also kind enough to write me a recommendation for graduate school.  He was definitely memorable, and I will miss him.

I had the pleasure of knowing Peter both as a student at GT and later as a colleague when I joined the faculty at GT. Peter was a rigorous instructor, but he was fair in his rigor. His lectures were fascinating and filled with interesting stories from his career. This is becuase he was very well-read and knew much about many subjects beyond engineering. I spent countless hours pouring over the pages of his text, Diffusional Mass Transfer, trying to dig into the material. Many of us on the faculty remember his strong opinions. Peter was unafraid to stand up for what he felt was important. He certainly made a lasting impact on the students of GT and on the chemical engineering profession, and he will be missed.
