

Among the events of that year, Franklin D. Roosevelt was President and the Apollo Theatre opened in Harlem. The St Louis Cardinals won the World Series and Japan renounced the Washington Naval Treaty of 1922. However, one of the most important events of 1934 was the birth of Artie Sanders, Jr.
Artie was born to Mamie (Hobson) and Artie Sanders, Sr. At age 10, Artie lost his mother to TB and was blessed with foster parents, Gaines and Anna Partridge of Omaha, Nebraska who reared him and his brother Willie Washington as their own. Artie's sister Genola 'Jean' Sanders resides in Phoenix, Arizona. Willie preceded Artie in death in 2012.
Living with the Partridges also blessed him with a host of other relatives. He was also preceded in death by his sisters Lyndell (Richard) Batth, Helen (Tommy) Phillips and brothers Roland Wilson and Gaines Partridge, Jr.
Artie was a graduate of Tech High School in Omaha and an alumni of Lincoln University.
At the young age of 21, Artie enlisted in the United States Army and made a lifelong commitment to serving his beloved country. During his tenure in the military he was stationed in Korea after the war; served two tours of duty during the Vietnam Conflict; served in Aschaffenburg, Germany and retired from his decorated military career at Ft Jackson, South Carolina as a Drill Sergeant.
In retirement, he worked for the Army in Moral Welfare and Recreation as Youth Sports Director and later as a coach for the ASA in Basketball, Football and Girls Softball.
In later years Artie devoted his life to his community serving as a Greeter and a CTSS member at St James - Alpharetta. He was also a volunteer at the Lawrenceville Food Bank.
Artie's lifetime of accomplishments were enhanced when in 1959 he met and married the love of his life, Grace Elizabeth Henderson a member of the U.S. Women's Army Corp. A match made in heaven, the couple celebrated their 64th Anniversary on October 24. 2023.
Artie and Grace became the proud parents of Wanda Lorraine Sanders who preceded them in death in 2009.
An inspiration to hundreds of youth, Artie Sanders, beloved Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, Counselor and friend, Artie was a shining example of a man who loved God, exuded dignity, respect, strength, humility, and a deep rooted commitment to contributing to making the world a better place for the future.
He is survived by his wife, Grace; Sister Jean Glasper Phoenix, Arizona; Sister In Laws, Susan (Hattie) Henderson, Los Angeles, Ca.; Vanessa (Earl) Taylor, Campbellsville, Kentucky; Angelia Washington; Nieces and nephews including (partial listing) Rufus (Debbie) Glasper, Hazel (Greer) Glasper, Resa (Kerry) Turk, Paul Carpenter, Fred (Doreen) Thomas, Patricia Carpenter, Mandrill (Dea); Wellington (Crystal) Batth, Baye Batth (Jacqueline),Bill Henderson Il, Reginald (Caron) Henderson, Benjamin (Shalonda) Henderson, Regina Henderson, Jerrell Henderson, and Amanda Lockhart as well as a host of grand and great grand nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his God children Lazonia Vickie and Tony Golden.
Today we celebrate the Life and Legacy of Artie Sanders, Jr. a truly good man!
A celebration of life for Artie will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St James Alpharetta, 3000 Webb Bridge Rd, Alpharetta, GA 30009. Following the celebration of life will be a burial and committal service at 1:30 PM at Gwinnett Memorial Park, 925 Lawrenceville Highway, Lawrenceville, GA 30046.
Artie will be laid to rest in Gwinnett Memorial Park, 925 Lawrenceville Highway, Lawrenceville, GA 30046.
