Carolyn Powell Paris was born in Villa Rica, Georgia to Pauline and Dr John Ernest Powell, on August 15, 1927. Her father delivered her in their home. She had one brother, Ernest Jr. who was also a doctor in Villa Rica. She lived her whole life in that small town. She met her future husband, David C. Paris, before the war and their love for each other grew through their letters while he was in the Pacific. They were married after his return from the Navy on June 4, 1947. She was 19 and he was 24. They had three Nancy , David and Jan. After David's death in 1989, she moved from Villa Rica to Roswell to be near family. Moving to Roswell in 1991 as a new widow was a huge change for her. But with her faith, nearby family, and many new friends, Roswell soon became home.
Faith in Jesus Christ as her saviour has been the central part of Carolyn's life. She was a member of Villa Rica First Methodist Church. The rhythm of our home while growing up in Villa Rica was tied to Sundays at church. After moving to Roswell, Roswell UMC quickly became her spiritual home. Her's was a quiet faith in many ways, but she deeply loved the Bible and doing her part to serve the church. Sunday School and the Altar Guild at RUMC, gave her places to learn and serve, plus many close friends. Her faith sustained her through difficult times. God has been her refuge. His Spirit has given her insight to help counsel and encourage our family through our challenges in life. We will miss her strength and wisdom. We saw her live and die, trusting the promises of God.
A memorial service will be held to honor her life on Sunday, July 3rd at 3:00 pm in the chapel at Roswell United Church.
