Elinor Kay "Myrt" Williams Martin, 74, of Phoenix, Arizona, and Roswell, Georgia, took her last look at our Lord’s most wondrous creation – our Earth – before she joined the angels forever in the early morning hours of September 24, 2016. An only child, she was born to Cicero Washington Williams and Jessie Frances Johnson Williams on July 3, 1942, in Athens, Georgia. After graduating from the University of Georgia, she was one of the few who left her hometown, having been commissioned as an Officer in the United States Air Force. She then met her husband, Harold, and after three weeks of courtship, they married. She always said the reason she married him was because her husband had two blenders, and he always said the reason why he married her was because she knew how to use them! After raising three girls and traveling the world, Kay settled down and raised the apple of her eye, granddaughter, Valerie. That was her best accomplishment and contribution to this world. She leaves behind husband of 52 years, Harold Ray Martin; daughters, Jennifer Martin van Rosmalen (Paul) of Peoria, Arizona, Jessica Martin of Pinellas Park, Florida, and Jocelynn Watson (Tim) of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren, Valerie Marie Norton, Charles Martin van Rosmalen and William Devos van Rosmalen; great grandchildren, Jace and Jett van Rosmalen; cousin, Glenda Greenhaw (Mike); canine companion, Lily; close and distant cousins, nieces and nephews; and truest friends, Susan Banks (Julian) of Sharpsburg, Georgia, Mary Hans of Alliance, Ohio, and Evie Offord of Houston, Texas. She was predeceased by cousin, Ronald Cooper of Athens, Georgia; as well as her beloved dogs, Pookie, Prissy and Prudy. Myrt loved her cheap wine and in her good years could be found all over town shopping at Ross, TJ Maxx and Marshalls. She was a feisty woman who spoke her Southern mind. There were more things in life that she didn't like (especially having her picture taken) than she did, but a few things she did enjoy were watching her soap operas, tanning, getting her nails done, traveling and reading. She was a good friend, and had a love for all kinds of food, especially éclairs, homemade pimiento cheese, homegrown tomatoes, coconut cake, Varsity hotdogs, hash, and seafood from Pappadeaux restaurant. Myrt was not an easy woman to love, kind of prickly, but all heart underneath. She will be dearly missed for her excellent cleaning skills, organizational wizardry and oftentimes unsolicited advice and opinion. She was one of a kind. A memorial service with a reception to follow at the cemetery pavilion will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2016, at Booth Memorial Park Cemetery, 2000 Tallassee Road, Statham, Georgia 30666. There, a bench will be placed with a portion of her cremated remains where she will be visited by the Booth Family Reunion (est. 1914) clan every year on the second Sunday in August. There will be a memorial service at Kay's final resting place on Thursday, April 13, 2017 promptly at 10:30am, with Air Force honors, at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, located at 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85024, followed by a reception at the Elks Lodge, located at 14424 North 32nd Street in Phoenix, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated in memory of Elinor Martin to The Salvation Army WRP (Women’s Rehabilitation Program), 1625 South Central Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona 85004. The organization has been monumental in recovery and continues to be near and dear to the Martin family. In addition, please consider throwing your electronic devices away and voting for Donald Trump. It would have pleased Myrt and you might have gotten a smile out of her. Roswell Funeral Home in Roswell, Georgia, has been entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences www.RoswellFuneralHome.com
