

She was born to the late Willie Mae Bivins Strickland and Hugh Elvy Strickland, in Roswell, Georgia, on September 18, 1939. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her much-beloved Grandmother, Mimi Isabella Bivins, loving husband and life partner, Jack Barnes, her brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Mary Blackstone, and her sister, Marjorie Strickland Samples.
Hilda was a strong woman, reared by two equally strong women, and lived a life of hard-fought achievement and surrounded by love. She met her lifelong partner, Jack Barnes, at the young age of 16 and they were married for 65 wonderful years. She was a woman of deep faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ, making sure that her daughters were reared in a loving church family. In her late 30’s she discovered a passion for tennis which became the perfect outlet for her competitive nature. Her life and influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.
Hilda’s memory will be cherished by her surviving daughters and their spouses, Jacqueline and Kenneth Yarbrough, Rena’ and James Cozart; her grandchildren Brian Yarbrough, Thomas Yarbrough, Glyn Cozart Chaney, Jack Cozart; her great grandchildren; her brothers and their spouses Douglas and Shirley Strickland, Lamar and Harriet Strickland, along with her nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on May 23rd at 2:00p at Roswell Funeral Home, with family graveside services at 3:30p.
