Joan is survived in death by her husband, Bernard (Ben), daughter Laura, grandchildren, Jessica Wargolet (Adam), Megan Naioti (Matthew), Adam Makuck, Angela Massey (Alex), Sophia McConnell (William), Thomas Kan; and great-grandchildren. Joan was preceded in death by her son, David Kan, daughter-in-law Sabine Kan, son-in-law Brian Makuck, sister-in-law Louise Kan, parents Arnold and Nora Pittelko.
Joan Marie Kan was a loyal caring woman who loved her family and was strong in her faith in God. She loved her husband, Ben, of 66 years and her two children, Laura and David. She was resilient, preceding in death her son, David. She loved spending time with her six grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Joan had a quick wit, and as an accountant for many years, she loved to play games with her grandchildren and was often found at the bridge table enjoying a good game. Joan’s favorite place to be was by the water or on the water. Most weekends in the early years, you could find her sailing with her family on Lake Delevan, Wisconsin. She was a woman of service, belonging to the Ladies of the Elks club for many years serving the local children’s hospital in the Chicago area where she lived with her family until she and Ben retired. They first went to the Florida Keys, then after escaping a hurricane decided to move to a lake in South Carolina to be closer to family. Joan leaves behind a legacy of devotion to God and family. She will be missed.
