

John James Lester, age 90, a resident of Loganville, Georgia, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018. John was born in Fall River, MA. He was graduated from North Fulton High School in Atlanta, GA. John enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 19, where he served on an aircraft carrier. Shortly after his tour of duty was completed, he joined the Army Reserves and was commissioned to serve in the Korean War. He worked for General Electric while attending night school at Georgia State University. After earning a degree in Business Administration, he launched his 57-year career as a State Farm Agent.
John was active in service to his community. He sponsored many high school sports teams and served as president of the Sandy Springs Chamber of Commerce. John enjoyed boating, and was a member of the Chattanooga Yacht Club. He also recently became a member of American Legion Post 233 in Loganville, GA.
Mr. Lester is preceded in death by his parents, William Byron Lester and Mary Susan Lester, a brother Louis Britton,a sister Mary Alice Morris, and his beloved wife of 45 years, Wanda Joyce Lester.
Survivors include his daughters, Nancy Carol Sturdivant and Lynda Louise Hampshire, his son-in-law Mike Hampshire, 5 grandchildren, and 11 great- grand- children.
Services for Mr. Lester will be held at Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Road, Roswell, GA. on Saturday, February 24th. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The service will begin at 12:00 noon, followed by a lunch reception.
