

Joyce Huggins Ayers, aged 93, passed away on October 13, 2023. She was born on August 2, 1930, to Thomas Elbert Huggins and Ophelia Elizabeth Lewis Huggins in Atlanta, Ga. Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Lewis Eugene Ayers, Sr.; her daughter, Judith Ayers Finley and her four siblings: Jerry Huggins, James Huggins, Dorothy Rafferty and Jean yip.
She is survived by children, Janet (Michael) Cofer; Lewis (Susan) Ayers, Jr.; grandchildren: Joshua (Jamie), Cofer Sarah (John) Hildebrand, Melissa Ayers, Mason Finley; great grandchildren, Evan Mercer and Madison Cofer and godchildren, Mark Bixby and Kim Gregory.
After 30 years of service, Joyce retired from the Center for Disease Control where she was over Technical lnformation of Preventable Diseases. ln addition to many other innovations, she implemented and managed the CDC's AIDS Hotline when the disease emerged as a global health threat.
Joyce served as Mayor of her treasured City of Mountain Park for many years. She also held several other state and county positions: President of North Fulton Council for Government, Director of Atlanta Regional commission, and Director of North Fulton chamber of commerce.
While her accomplishments cannot be understated, her greatest joy in life was family. There was always something to celebrate: birthdays, holidays, ball games, races, family trips to places near and far. Joyce and Big Lew also participated in many activities while their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were in school. Activities such as lndian Guides, cub scouts, little league, football games cheerleader camp, scores of musical plays, band and choral concerts.
Joyce will be remembered by family, long-time friends, and work associates for her optimism and happy spirit that made her such fun to be around.
She was a long-time member of Roswell United Methodist Church and a charter member of the prime Time Singers, a senior choir at RUMC.
Memorial service will be held at Roswell United Methodist Church at 2pm on October 26,2O23, with visitation before in the Church Parlor from 1-2.
