

Joyce Mortison was born July 21, 1938, the daughter of Clarence and Mera (Eno) Andresen. She graduated from the Pierre, South Dakota High School in 1956 as Valedictorian. Joyce received a BA from the University of Cincinnati in 1961 in Economics and Math, magna cum laude. She received an MBA from St. Thomas University in 1987. In addition, she attended the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, majoring in Flute and studying under Robert Cavally. She also took Master Classes with Peter Lloyd, William Bennett and John Pierre Rampal.
Joyce was a Computer Systems Analyst and Program Manager for NASA, GE, P&G, Unisys and was a Research Fellow at the University of Minnesota. She worked in the space program at NASA on the Saturn Project.
After retirement, Joyce was active in several genealogical societies, and published the book James Eno of Windsor, CT (1625-1682) and Descendants – 600 Years (1400-1999) which is in the Library of Congress and several State Libraries.
Joyce always loved the flute and performed with the Bloomington Symphony (MN), Musica Nova, Roswell Woodwind Quintet, Musica Festiva, Southern Lace, Hampton Court Minstrels, and the Alpharetta City Band. She performed at weddings, church services, the Bulloch Hall Formal Teas, and the annual reenactment of the 1853 Bulloch/Roosevelt wedding, where she played the wedding waltz for over 20 years. This wedding reenactment was attended by over 200 people per year and was shown on PBS and the Roswell TV Channel.
Other volunteer activities included Bulloch Hall Docent (24 years), Bulloch Hall Board of Governors (20 years), Southshore Homes Board of Directors (11 years), Martin’s Landing Garden Club (11 years), Bulloch Hall Garden Guild, and Daughters of the American Revolution – Chestatee River Chapter (13 years). She also worked in the AARP Tax-Aide Program providing free income tax consulting to seniors at the Roswell Adult Recreation Center for 18 years.
Joyce lived a fulfilling life and touched the hearts of many. Her spirit and generosity will live on.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 55 years, John Mortison of Roswell, GA., two daughters, Michelle Voight and Janet Host, two grandsons Brandon and Collin Host, a brother Ralph Gilbert of Barrington, IL, son-in-law Michael Host, several nieces and nephews, and many dear faithful friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. with a reception to follow at Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Road, Roswell, Georgia 30076.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in Joyce’s name and honor.
