87. Juanita was born in Bainbridge, GA on February 21st, 1931 and was one of 7
children. She was a fun loving person who moved to Atlanta after graduating high
school when she was 17 years old. Juanita stayed with her sister Dorothy and
found a job at First National Bank of Atlanta, where she met Ralph Allen, who was
the love of her life. Once they began dating, she had to leave FNB of Atlanta and
they helped her get a job with Trust Company Bank of Georgia. Juanita and Ralph
were married November 11th, 1950 and went on to celebrate 67 wonderful years
of marriage.
During their life together, Juanita worked about 20 years as a bookkeeper for
Kraft Foods in Decatur, GA. However, Juanita’s purpose in life was being a
homemaker, wife and mother. Throughout her life, Juanita was a faithful disciple
of Jesus. She was raised in the Methodist Church, and after marriage, she and
Ralph became members of the Baptist church. Most recently, they have been
members of Cumming Baptist Church. Juanita and Ralph raised Larry and Debbie
to love Jesus and made weekly worship a family tradition.
Juanita always put her family first, as the selfless person that she was. She loved
to cook and to see everyone enjoy what she cooked. An excellent southern cook,
she was famous for her large family dinners and for delivering multiple entrees
and side dishes to the table piping hot. Besides cooking, Juanita loved flowers
and loved to garden, owing to her upbringing on her family’s farm, where they
grew most of the vegetables they ate, raised chickens and made their own milk.
She also loved music, particularly country and gospel music.
Juanita is preceded in death by all four of her brothers, Lee Ward, Lamar Ward,
Vance Ward and Curtis Ward, and by her older sister Dorothy Boyette. She is
survived by her husband, Ralph Allen, sister Anne Johnson, son Larry
Allen (wife Danielle), daughter Debbie Prentice (husband Mike), grandsons: Jason
Prentice, Brian Prentice, and Tyler Allen, granddaughters: Jennifer Wilhoit and
Aliona Allen and two great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Collier Prentice.
